At Solar Gates, we are always looking for industry leaders who bring experience, passion, and innovation to our team. That’s why we’re delighted to welcome Niall O’Byrne as our Country Manager for Ireland.
Niall’s journey in traffic management and infrastructure solutions spans over 20 years, making him a true veteran in the industry. His career began in fuel and travel, working as a Fuel Card Manager for Esso Ireland, and previously with Aer Lingus in London. However, his passion for traffic solutions truly took off when he joined Rennicks Ireland, one of the first companies to introduce Variable Message Signs (VMS) in Ireland.
When Niall started at Rennicks, they had just six VMS units but under his leadership, that number grew to 130 within five years. He didn’t just expand the fleet, he also transformed perceptions of VMS technology, pioneering its use beyond roadworks and into major outdoor events. In fact, he was the first to introduce VMS at Slane Castle for an Oasis concert, an event attended by 80,000 people. His impact was so significant that event tenders started specifying Rennicks by name, rather than simply requesting VMS.
After Rennicks, Niall continued to shape the industry, establishing a traffic products division for Mac Rental in Dublin and later founding European Traffic Solutions, where he served as the main distributor for Horizont Klemmfix (Germany) across Ireland and the UK for nine years. He then took on a leadership role as Director for Ireland at SRL Traffic Systems, further cementing his reputation in the field.
Now, Niall is bringing his expertise and vision to Solar Gates, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome him aboard. With his extensive experience and strong industry relationships, he sees immense potential for our SOSEC, INSTABOOM, and INSTABOOM Go solutions in the Irish market. With MVIS, our sister company, also providing dynamic and adaptable intelligent transport systems (ITS) and variable message signs (VMS), this further enhances market potential, enabling us to offer an even broader range of innovative products.
